Feb 26 and 27 – Back to Vientiane, Buddha Park and On to Hong Kong

We left first thing after breakfast for the 40-minute drive back to the Pakse airport.  It is a small airport with only a couple of gates.  The flight back to Vientiane was only about an hoyur.  We got off only slightly delayed and were back in Vientiane late afternoon.  The original itinerary was to visit the Buddha Park when we got back to down but it was too late.

Patty wasn’t feeling well and went straight to her room for the evening.  Tara headed out to the night market for some shopping.  We opted for dinner in the hotel restaurant.  It was a bit more upscale and expensive than we expected but we didn’t want to go elsewhere as we had a lot of packing to do.

The next morning (2/27) Paul and Tara decided to head out first thing in the morning with the guide and visit Buddha Park.  Buddha Park is a sculpture park with over 200 sculptures.  The park was started in 1958 and all of the statues are made of reinforced concrete.  Some looked centuries old and many are fanciful and ornate.  Very interesting.

They were back shortly before lunchtime, and we all boarded the van shortly after noon for the 15-minute drive to the airport.  Our plane for Hong Kong took off only a little late.  On the other hand, Tara and Patty’s flight to Singapore was about 10 hours late.  Grueling.

Our flight to Hong Kong was 2 and a half hours.  Once there we were picked up by the Crystal Cruise representative and taken to a car that transported us to The Lingham where we will stay the night and board Crystal tomorrow.  Thus ends our Laos adventures.
